This is affirmed to be the last will and testament of Thomas Huggin who departed this life the 16th July last

First he bequeathed his soul to God and his body to Christian burial

He bequeathed to his son Philip a tholtan and a garden at the upper end of the town called by the name of Chuves thoultan and garden

He bequeathed to his son William his dwelling house, outhouse, backside and garden

He bequeathed the rest of his goods and chattels of what kind or nature soever jointly between his two sons viz Philip Huggin and Thomas Huggin who .. the witnesses ..... were his Executors though he named no ... .... And this in the presence of 2s

NOTES

  1. Thomas Higgin had 4 sons - Thomas, William, Philip, John - and a daughter Mary
  2. Only baptism for a Marie Hugine, father Thomas, in Braddan in 1680 might be the daughter Mary; no baptism for sons
  3. In this will, sons Thomas and John (who is dead), together with daughter Mary/Marie, received nothing specific although Thomas was annointed executor
  4. Marie/Mary might have died 10th July 1700. Her name is immediately prior to Thomas's record of burial
  5. No further information about sons Thomas and William. Son Philip married Jane Mcylrey
  6. Son Philip was a mariner and grandson Philip jnr was a hairdresser and wigmaker
  7. Phil Higgin snr did not leave a will but the LV 1743 records the fact that he made a gift of two cottages in 1736 to his son, Phil jnr, soon after his wife Jane died. Their rent was respectively 2s 7½d, and 20½d, for cottage allotments #48 & #52. (TBF might be NSS May 1743 #43)
