NOTES

  1. John sold this land to Adam Callister three years later
  2. LV 1677 for Michael: This 4s 6d rent was sold by Robt Ffreere son of Jo Freere unto one Jo Mcylrea who since sold it [to] Adam Callister as appears by their sd [?] bill [] confirmed & is in possession & for ye other 4s [? ?] ye right Wm Ffreere grandchild to ye sd Jo [? ?] theirfore all names are entered.
  3. John might have died in Michael in 1675. His last recorded transaction was in 1670 when he observed they were selling because of poverty
  4. If the John who died in 1675 was the vendor, then he was buried with the notation in the parish record "heir to Balemenagh", which is either a quarterland in the treen of Shalghag, an indication that his father was Thomas and his grandfather Rich, or in the treen of Oristall. However, there was no mention of a John in the Oristal family, yet this purchase & subsequent sale are for Rencullyn land, which is immediately to the south of Oristal, while Shalgagh is some distance away
  5. The 1515 Manorial Roll for Michael shows several McGilreas living there: Richard, John, William, Donald & Fynlo - more than in other other parish at the time
  6. The 1691 Composition Book for Michael identifies a Thomas McYlrea and a William McYlrea but no John
  7. In the 1600s, several Mylreas from Michael left wills although whether they were of John's family is unknown:
    • 1595 Johanis Mc ilrea (children William, Johns, Jonet, Donald, Johanis)
    • 1627 Richard (children Christian, Thomas, William & Bahie)
    • 1634 Madge Tear als Mylrea
    • 1637 Joney Cannel als Mylrea
    • 1650 Margaret Mylrea als Callister (children William, Ales)
    • 1654 Willliam Mylrea (children Mabel, John, Jane, Richard)
    • 1684 Hugh (only refers to wife)

Associated Documents

  1. The following land transactions are the only ones surviving for the Mylreas in Michael in the 1600s and have been put together in case someone can make a link between the families. There's a group of 3 relating to Thomas, another 4 relating to John (athough at vastly different times) and 2 for Hugh. However this does not imply generations of the same family
