DANIEL MOLROY from JOHN CLOWES STEPHEN
MORTGAGE - 1841 (Lonan)
Know all men by these presents that Daniel Mylroi of the parish of Lonan doth own and acknowledge himself to be and stand justly endebted unto John Clowes Stephen of the town of Ramsey in the just sum of eight pounds and ten shillings to the payment whereof with interest and all costs and charges to be well and truly made unto the said John C. Stephen, his executors and administrators and assigns he the said Daniel Mylroi doth bind himself, his heirs, executors and administrators firmly by these presents. Witness his name this 27th day of September 1841
And for the further and better security of him the said J. C. Stephen in the repayment of the said sum and interest and costs as aforesaid Further know ye that the said Daniel Mylroi by and with the consent of Mary Anne his wife testified by her becoming an executing party to these presents hath given, granted, demised and passed over and by these presents doth for himself, his executors, administrators and assigns give, grant, demise and pass over in security unto him the said J.C.Stephen all and singular those certain three dwelling houses or cottages and concerns situate in Laxey Glen in the parish of Lonan which he the said Daniel Mylroi purchased of Mr George Stowell and called Cotteen’s Garden together with the out offices, lands and premises thereunto belonging and bounded upon the river upon the south, and by the other river upon the north, the same being at present occupied by the said Daniel Mylroi and by Robert Kinley, Robert Gelling, John Cowley and others his tenants to have and to hold unto him the said John C.Stephen, his executors, administrators and assigns in security unto repayment of the said sum of eight pounds ten shillings with all interest, costs and charges by made and the said Daniel Mylroi doth agree and enjoy for himself, his heirs, executors and administrators to and with the J.C.Stephen, his executors, administrators and assigns that he hath at this time good right, full power and lawful authority to encumber the premises as aforesaid and that he and they will uphold, defend and warrant unto him and them against the claim, challenge and demand of all persons whatsoever and for the true and faithful performance of these presents they the said Daniel Mylroi and the said Mary Anne his wife bind and oblige themselves, their heirs, executors and assigns in and under the penalty and forfeiture of seventeen pounds to be levied and paid according to law. At Ramsey September 27 1841 Daniel Mylroi and Mary Ann Mylroi his wife the executing parties to the foregoing Deed of Bond and Security acknowledged the same to be their proper act and deed. Before me ……….. Tellett?
At a Common Law Court holden at Ramsey the 15 day February 1842 the foregoing Deed having been captioned by a High Bailiff and published in Court without objection is ordered to be recorded. J. Christian Whereas Daniel Mylroi of Laxey and Mary Ann his wife passed their Deed of Bond and Security dated the 27th day of September 1841 unto John Clowes Stephen esq since deceased for the principal sum of eight pounds and ten shillings encumbering certain dwelling houses and premises situate in Laxey in the parish of Lonan called Cotteen’s Gardens
And whereas the said John Cowles Stephen departed this life probate of his last will and testament was on the sixth day of March 1880 granted to Susan Anna Stephen the executrix therein named and whereas the said Susan Anna Stephen is now the wife of Robert Farrant esq of Ballamillaghyn in the parish of Braddan
Now know all men by these presents that Susan Anna Farrant (formerly Stephen) executrix and Robert Farrant her husband do hereby acknowledge to have received from the said Daniel Mylroi the whole amount of principal, interest, costs and charges due and owing under the said Deed of Bond and Security and we therefore desire that the same may be and stand cancelled on record. - Daniel was the son of David Mylroie jnr & Catherine Quayle, and baptised in 1805
- He married Mary Ann Teare in Patrick in 1829, and they had 8 children although only 3 daughters and 1 son were mentioned in Mary Ann's 1871 will
- John 1830, a builder, married Sarah Ball. He died a few days after his father
- Mary Ann 1833, had a child out of wedlock, married James Lawson, a miner
- Ann, no baptismal record, 1836ish married Robert Corlett, a miner

- After Mary Ann died in 1871, Daniel remarried, to Jane Lowry 1874
- Daniel was a shoemaker by trade but did very well in his business life. He had properties and was a money lender, and from this document, a land lord as well
- When he died in 1899, he left an array of properties and mortgages for his legatees to enjoy
