Know all men by these presents that I Charles McYlrea of KK Malew with the consent of Mary my wife divers good causes and considerations us thereunto moving but more especially for and in consideration of the sum of five pounds currency of this Isle to us in hand paid by and from the hands of John Brew of the said parish the receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge have given, granted, bargained, alienated, passed over and sold and by these presents do give, grant, bargain, alienate, pass over and forever absolutely sell from us our heirs, executors, administrators and assigns all the right we now have heretofor had or at any time had or at any time may, might or could have in and unto our part or portion of an Abbey meadow in the said parish the remainder whereof belongs to the said John Brew and adjoining to the said John Brew’s Creggans on the one side and to John Murray’s fallow gick? on the other side bearing the annual rent of four pence rent unto him the said John Brew his heirs, administrators and assigns forever from the date hereof to have and to hold unto him the said John Brew his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns with all ways, waters, watercourses, easements, liberties and properties to the premises in anywise belonging or appertaining he yielding and paying such yearly rent out of the same as the Setting Quest shall set or allot thereon with all other dues, boons, suits and services due and payable out of the premises at the times and seasons accustomed and I the said Charles McYlrea and Mary my wife do hereby bind and oblige ourselves our heirs, executors, administrators and assigns to uphold, maintain, awarrant and defend the beforesaid parcel of meadow unto him the said John Brew his heirs executors administrators and assigns against the pretended right of any person or persons claiming any right to any part of the same and to do or cause to be done all and further act or acts thing or things that in law or equity shall be found requisite for the better strengthening hereof unto him the said John Brew his heirs executors administrators and assigns but if in case it shall or may at any time hereafter appear that we had not the right in us to sell the beforementioned meadow beforesaid but that the same at any time hereafter shall be taken or recovered from his the said John Brew his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns by law by any person or persons who hereafter will make their right to appear to the same then and in that case the said Charles Mylrea and Mary do hereby engage by way of Counter Security unto the said John Brew, his heirs executors administrators and assigns a certain part of our estate of Fildraw being a part of our faii that is to say the north field thereof to the highway and adjoining to Thomas & Jony McYlrea’s part of the said faii on the south and to the way that leads from our house to the highway on the north which he the said John Brew his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns immediately after he or either of them are dispossessed of the said meadow in manner aforesaid and to hold the same until the said sum of five pounds be fully paid to him and for the true and faithful performance hereof and everything herein contained I the said Charles Mylrea and Mary my wife hereby bind and oblige ourselves our heirs executors administrators and assigns in the penalty or forfeiture of twenty pounds to be paid according to law As witness our hand and marks this 3rd September 1741 Charles McYlrea, Mary McYlrea my mark X

3rd October 1741 Charles McYlrea and Mary McYlrea his wife acknowledged the within and above Bill of Sale with the covenants and conditions therein mentioned to be their voluntary act and deed before me John Taubman

At an Abbey Court holden at Ballasalley the 16th October 1741 the beforegoing Bill of Sale having been acknowledged before the Deemster and now openly published in Court and no objection offered against it is therefore allowed of and confirmed according to law John Murray, Dan McYlrea, John Taubman, Charles Stanley, John Quayle, William Christian

  2. Charles jnr was the only surviving son born to Charles McYlrea snr & Margaret (als Kewley?)
  3. He married Mary Bell als Bridson c1736; five children Charles (1738-1741), John (1740), Robert (1742), William (1746), Thomas (1750)
  4. Mary died 1782; Charles jnr 1792. Son Charles died in infancy; no record of the fates of the other sons
  5. This contract was the second of three sales executed in 1741
  6. Charles jnr, also took several mortgages but eventually sold off all of Fildraw
  7. There is much about the Malew Mylreas of the 1600s and early 1700s that does not hang together so extreme caution must be exercised
